Rights of Way and Countryside Access Improvement Plan
This questionnaire asks for your views on Gloucestershire’s public rights of way and wider countryside access network. We want to understand how well the current network meets people’s needs and how and where improvements could be made. Your feedback will help shape the updated Rights of Way Improvement Plan and the actions it will set out.
The plan is aspirational, meaning it describes a long‑term vision for improving paths and access. Any work that takes place will depend on funding, resources, legal requirements, permissions, and opportunities such as development projects.
The plan covers a wide range of routes and access areas, including:
- Public rights of way, such as
- Footpaths across fields and away from roads
- Bridleways and restricted byways used by walkers, cyclists, horse riders, and carriage drivers
- Byways open to all traffic, which can also be used by motor vehicles
- Cycle tracks that are separate from motor‑vehicle roads
- Commons and access land open to the public
Together, these routes form an important network for local people, visitors, and all types of users. Your input will help us understand how this network can be improved for the future.
