Cricklade Street (between Market Place and West Way)

Restricted parking zone to be extended along Cricklade Street and no entry except cycles restriction to be enforced and clearly signposted.

    CurrentProposed

    • Confusion at crossroads eliminated, improving road safety.
    • Through traffic from Market Place to Cricklade Street impedes pedestrian usage.

    • No entry clearly signposted meaning that benefits of pedestrianised area now able to be felt by users and local businesses.
    • Quiet and safe route for cyclists in both directions, including provision of cycle parking.
    • Potential for greatly improved public realm and street design, in line with CTC ambitions for the town centre.
    • Still accessible for emergency vehicles as necessary.

Cricklade Street (south of West Way)

Restricted parking zone to be extended along Cricklade Street to junction with Ashcroft Road, with addition of new loading bays. Parking restrictions south of Ashcroft Road revised from limited waiting to P&D plus addition of blue badge holders only parking.

    CurrentProposed

    • Loading currently only permitted after 6:30pm resulting in unsafe and unlawful practice during the daytime, particularly at the tight Cricklade Street / Ashcroft Road junction.
    • Limited waiting (1 hour no return within 1 hour Mon-Sat 8am-6:30pm) parking difficult to monitor and enforce resulting in unlawful long stay parking.
    • Dedicated loading bays provided in safe and convenient locations.
    • P&D parking in line with other parking in the town centre and in support of ambitions for reduced car dependence in the future.
    • Parking for blue badge holders close to town centre amenities.

    Dyer Street

Extension of restricted parking zone which will include designated loading bays and blue badge holders parking as well as P&D parking provision.

    CurrentProposed

    • Limited waiting (1 hour no return within 1 hour Mon-Sat 8am-6:30pm) parking provided along south side of street.
    • No waiting at any time interspersed with no waiting 8am-6.30pm restriction resulting in double parking at some times, limiting flow of traffic.

    • RPZ extended along Dyer Street from Market Place providing clarity and reducing conflict between road users on narrow parts of the road.
    • Designated loading bays provided in suitable locations for use by local businesses.
    • P&D restrictions to bring provision in line with other parking in the town centre and support ambitions for reduced reliance on car into the future.
    • Blue badge holders to provide safe access to local amenities.

    Market Place

Reconfiguration of parking and waiting restrictions outside the Kings Head hotel including extension of taxi rank as well as provision of blue badge holder parking and loading space. Addition of motorcycle parking spaces.

    CurrentProposed

    • P&D parking for all vehicles.
    • No designated bays for blue badge holders nor motorcycles.
    • Short taxi rank resulting in queues and conflicts between road users.
    • Existing loading bays to north and south of Market Place.
    • P&D parking in centre of Market Place to be retained.
    • Dedicated motorcycle and blue badge holders parking provided in safe and convenient locations.
    • Taxi rank extended, to provide sufficient provision in prime location.

    North Way and South Way

Consistent no waiting and no loading 8am-6.30pm restriction along length of streets.

    CurrentProposed

    • Single yellow no waiting 8am-6.30pm restriction allowing vehicles to load and unload indiscriminately and sometimes unsafely along the roads.
    • Addition of no loading restriction signposted and marked by kerb blips.
    • Encourages loading to take place in designated bays on nearby streets rather than unsafely on the carriageway.

    West Way

Restricted parking zone to be extended along West Way, which will be reopened to one way traffic from North Way and South Way and two-way cycle access. New loading and blue badge holders parking bays added.

    CurrentProposed

    • Dead end street with no daytime parking or loading provision.
    • Itzehoe bench and tree located between West Way and Cricklade Street.

    • Extension of restricted parking zone to connect coherently with Cricklade Street.
    • Retention of vehicular access to businesses along southern end of Cricklade Street, while discouraging through traffic currently experienced on northern Cricklade Street due to circuitous route.
    • Two-way cycle access supports sustainable travel through the town centre.
    • Dedicated loading and blue badge only bays provided in safe and convenient locations.
    • Itzehoe bench and tree to be relocated to a new prominent location in the town centre.
