Engagement has concluded.

Background

Cheltenham to Bishop's Cleeve Cycleway forms part of the Gloucestershire Cycle spine, extending across the county from Stroud in the south to Bishop's Cleeve in the north. It will contribute to a significant cycling and walking network across the Gloucestershire county, improving quality and connectivity.

The scheme will provide full access to the 26-mile cycle spine from the Honeybourne Line cycle facilities by the Prince of Wales Stadium to Bishop's Cleeve Roundabout adjacent to GE Aviation roundabout. The scheme will support a greener Gloucestershire, help reduce carbon emissions, supporting improvements to public health and making it easier for people to cycle and walk to work, homes and transport hubs.

The project is set to be delivered in two sections:

  • Honeybourne Line cycleway to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout (starting in autumn/winter 2023/2024)
  • Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout and the GE Roundabout, Bishop's Cleeve (2024/25)

First section: Honeybourne Line cycleway to Cheltenham Racecourse Roundabout Engagement

The route runs from the Honeybourne Line at the Prince of Wales Stadium, through Hudson Street, Marle Hill Road, Wellesley Road, Central Cross Drive, following Evesham Road to the Racecourse Roundabout.

The scheme will improve facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and non-motorised users in the area and make a further contribution to CO2 reductions.

All views will be considered when putting forward a final design for the scheme, with work on this first section of the project due to begin in autumn/winter 2023.

Engagement and work on the second section, from the Racecourse to Bishops Cleeve, will start at a later date.
