Local Nature Recovery Strategy Engagement
Engagement exercise has concluded.
Thank you for your interest in the Gloucestershire Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). This survey will take 10-15 minutes to complete. Your response will be used to inform the priorities and actions which will support the delivery of the LNRS.
All responses are treated confidentially and will remain anonymous. If you would like to discuss this survey please contact LNRS@gloucestershire.gov.uk.
This is an early stage survey to feed in to the Local Nature Recovery Strategy prior to it being written. Once a final draft of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy is created this document will be available for review and comment.
What is the purpose of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy?
It is a strategy that will map out how and where nature recovery could take place in Gloucestershire.
The Local Nature Recovery Strategy covers 4 main areas.
- A list of priority habitats
- A list of priority species
- A list of recommendations for how these can be protected
- A map of priority zones
Who decided a LNRS was needed?
Central government, specifically the Department for Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) mandated that local authorities must create a LNRS using the timeline below. Further information is available on the Gov.uk website.
Who is the strategy for?
The strategy will be especially useful for land managers, environmental organisations and planners to make informed decisions about land use. However, it is hoped the strategy will also be useful for anyone to find out more about supporting nature’s recovery in Gloucestershire.
What will the LNRS not do?
The local nature recovery strategy will not say who is responsible for the land and will not mandate that any action is taken on specific areas of land. The LNRS is a strategic document to help plan and organise, and to encourage action, especially where this can be linked to funding and investment.
Wider issues related to nature like improvements to people’s health, although important, are outside the legal scope of what Local Nature Recovery Strategies are designed to achieve. These are very important topics and will be important to integrate into the actions taken as a result of this strategy.
The ways that nature can help us adapt to climate change, and how nature will itself adapt to climate change, will be important themes.
You can find out more about the strategy and FAQs on our website.
