Why are you proposing Cinderford as the location for the new day shift station?

Cinderford was deemed to be the most appropriate location based on data compiled over many years. All stations were reviewed as part of a modelling exercise.

Is GFRS moving away from On Call firefighters?

No, GFRS is a majority ‘On Call’ fire and rescue service. We recognise the importance and value our community firefighters. GFRS is always looking to invest and recruit On Call firefighters to the service.

Is this consultation just a paper exercise?

This consultation is part of the CRMP (Community Risk Management Plan) review and options were provided to the county council’s Cabinet.

Cabinet approved two options to go out for public consultation.

    • Option 1: Increase of 14 firefighters with the introduction of a new day shift station at Cinderford.
    • Option 2: Review and change wholetime firefighter shift patterns from 9 hour day and 15 hour night shifts to 12 hour day and night shifts

The results of the public consultation will be collected and provided to Cabinet in December 2024 as part of the decision making process.

Why are the 14 additional firefighters not spread equally among other stations?

This would not work with a shift pattern.14 firefighters would crew Cinderford station during a 12 hour daytime period, the shift would mean 2 watches of 7 firefighters working a 4 on 4 off pattern.

Will the existing Cinderford station be sold for housing?

No, the station will be refurbished and will remain 24/7 station with wholetime and On Call firefighters.
