Due to current staffing constraints, the library is operating with only one staff member on duty during certain shifts. In line with health and safety regulations and to ensure the well-being of our staff, we are proposing a closure of the library for one hour during lunchtime (e.g., 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM).
This measure is intended to: - Allow the sole staff member to take a legally required break. - Ensure that the library is not left unattended, which could pose safety and security risks. - Maintain a sustainable working environment for staff, reducing burnout and stress.
Operating a public facility with only one staff member raises several concerns: - Health and Safety: In the event of an emergency, a lone worker may not be able to respond effectively or seek help. - Legal Compliance: Employment law mandates that staff are entitled to uninterrupted breaks during their shifts. - Service Quality: A well-rested staff member is better able to provide high-quality service to customers. We understand that this change may impact our customers, and we are committed to minimizing disruption. Your feedback is essential in helping us make informed decisions.
